Breeder profile
Welcome to my reptile breeding page! My name Carl based in Sheffield, UK, and I have been passionately keeping and breeding reptiles for nearly three decades, since 1998. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a lifelong dedication to herpetology. Over the years, I have worked with a massive variety of species, building a deep understanding of their unique behaviors, husbandry, and breeding requirements. My Journey & Experience Like many breeders, I started out working with classic, beloved species before expanding into more specialized and rare reptiles. Over the years, my experience has spanned an incredible roster of species, including: • Classic Favorites: Bearded dragons, leopard geckos, and panther chameleons. • Agamids & Dragons: Frilled dragons and water dragons. • Unique Lizards: Green keel-bellied lizards. • Gecko Species: Electric blue geckos (Williamsoni), Conraui geckos, and Chinese cave geckos. Current Breeding Projects Today, my focus is on high-end husbandry and producing healthy, captive-bred offspring of some truly remarkable and sought-after species. My current active projects include: • Egyptian Tortoises (Testudo kleinmanni) • Australian Geckos & Monitors • Shield-Tailed Agamas (Xenagama) Every animal in my care is maintained to the highest possible standards. Whether you are a fellow hobbyist looking for your next project or looking to add a rare species to your collection, I am always happy to chat reptiles and share knowledge. Thank you for stopping by and supporting captive-bred reptiles!

Testudo kleinmanni
Project Overview: Egyptian Tortoise Conservation Breeding Initiative The objective is to establish a secure, sustainable captive population of Egyptian Tortoises (Testudo kleinmanni) within the UK. This project combines strict genetic management with high-standard husbandry to preserve this critically endangered species. Core Mission The Egyptian Tortoise is functionally extinct across much of its native range due to habitat loss and poaching. This private conservation effort acts as a robust insurance population to combat global declines. Key Goals • Genetic Preservation: Outcross and track lineages to maximize diversity. • Health Selection: Breed for robust vitality and perfect structural growth. • Husbandry Standards: Document parameters to create a reliable breeding blueprint. • Awareness: Share data to foster collaborative bloodline management. Roadmap • Phase 1: Source unrelated founder stock and establish precise arid biomes. • Phase 2: Monitor pair compatibility and manage incubation temperatures. • Phase 3: Rear healthy offspring.

Nephrurus levis levis
Project Overview: Smooth Knob-Tailed Gecko Breeding Initiative The primary objective is to enhance color traits, patterns, and genetic diversity of Smooth Knob-Tailed Geckos (Nephrurus levis levis) within the UK. This project pairs meticulous selective breeding with strict genetic management to produce robust, visually stunning, and healthy lineages. Core Passion & Project Statement Driven by a passion for Australian herpetofauna, this initiative focuses on mastering the husbandry of these spectacular desert dwellers. Prioritizing genetic variation alongside aesthetic improvements ensures that the local captive population remains strong, resilient, and thriving long-term. Key Goals & Objectives • Color Enhancement: Line-breed for vibrant color variations, clean patterns, and high-contrast traits like deep oranges. • Genetic Diversity: Outcross systematically with unrelated bloodlines to expand the gene pool and prevent inbreeding. • Health & Vigor: Select future breeding stock based on strong feeding drives, excellent bone density, and structural perfection.
Nephrurus Wheeleri
Project Overview: Rough Knob-Tailed Gecko Breeding Initiative The objective is to refine the unique bands, textures, and genetic diversity of Rough Knob-Tailed Geckos (Nephrurus wheeleri) in the UK. This project combines meticulous selective breeding with strict genetic management to produce structurally robust, visually striking, and healthy captive bloodlines. Core Passion & Project Statement Rough Knob-Tailed geckos are highly prized for their distinctive banded appearance, prehistoric skin texture, and expressive personalities. Driven by a deep appreciation for Australian desert herpetofauna, this initiative focuses on mastering the specialized husbandry of this species. We prioritize overall genetic health alongside aesthetic traits to secure a sustainable long-term population. Key Goals & Objectives • Pattern Definition: Selectively breed for high-contrast banding, stark coloration, and prominent tuberous skin textures. • Genetic Expansion: Systematically outcross with unrelated lineages to maximize genetic variety and prevent inbreeding depression. • Structural Selection: Retain future breeders displaying robust feeding drives, excellent bone density, and ideal growth curves.
Nephrurus Amyae
Project Overview: Centralian Rough Knob-Tailed Gecko Breeding Initiative The objective is to enhance the robust size, vivid coloration, and genetic health of Centralian Rough Knob-Tailed Geckos (Nephrurus amyae) in the UK. This project combines careful line-breeding for intense color traits with strict genetic tracking to produce massive, healthy, and high-quality bloodlines. Core Passion & Project Statement As the largest species in the genus, Nephrurus amyae stands out for its impressive prehistoric build, spiky tuberculate skin, and bold personality. Fascinated by their massive appearance and unique desert adaptations, this project focuses on mastering their captive ecology. We prioritize structural strength alongside visual traits to ensure a resilient future captive gene pool. Key Goals & Objectives • Color Intensity: Line-breed for high-contrast coloration, rich brick-reds, bright oranges, and clean stone-patterned shades. • Lineage Security: Meticulously log pedigrees and source unrelated stock to preserve genetic vitality and avoid inbreeding. • Vigor Selection: Choose future breeders exhibiting exceptional growth rates, strong bone structure, and aggressive feeding drives.

Underwoodisaurus Milii
Project Overview: Barking Gecko Breeding Initiative The objective is to refine the brilliant patterns, deep contrast, and genetic health of Barking Geckos (Underwoodisaurus milii) in the UK. This project combines strategic line-breeding for vibrant color variations with responsible genetic monitoring to produce robust, visually stunning, and exceptionally healthy bloodlines. Core Passion & Project Statement Barking geckos are a highly underrated species that makes an excellent, hardy alternative to the ubiquitous leopard gecko. They are cherished for their incredibly gentle nature, large starry eyes, and velvety, white-spotted skin. Driven by a deep adoration for unique Australian herpetofauna, this project focuses on optimizing their captive husbandry. We balance aesthetic traits with rigorous health standards to ensure a resilient long-term captive gene pool. Key Goals & Objectives • Pattern Definition: Selectively breed for high-contrast coloration, crisp white spotting, and vivid hypomelanistic or hypermelanistic expressions. • Genetic Diversity: Maintain clear lineage logs and introduce unrelated bloodlines to prevent inbreeding and ensure overall strain vigor. • Health Selection: Choose future breeding stock showing ideal calcium retention, stable growth rates, and thriving feeding drives.
